Potatoes are at the heart of the Potato Festival which meanwhile attracts more than 50,000 fans from way beyond the city's borders. Around 120 booths spread out throughout the city centre present visitors with culinary delights, wooden toys, floristry and arts and crafts. Broom makers, basket weavers and wooden shoe carvers can be watched at work, while the wonderful smell of fried and roast potatoes fills the air. The festival for the versatile vegetable is appropriately accompanied by folk dancing together with folk and country singers.
