Boats for hire: Another way to see the city |
|
The Graftanlagen at the heart of the city are one of Delmenhorst's treasures; what better way to explore than on the water. The boating season begins in May with the balmy summer days enticing visitors to go on a voyage of discovery through calm waters to discover the city's green belt. Pedal boats or rowing boats take you past ancient weeping willows that reach down into the water, and along the promenade where people stroll along in the shade of the trees. Enjoy this special way to see the city and forget your worries, while the sun glitters on the water and the hustle and bustle of everyday life gets left way behind. |

Kids & Co: Things to do in good weather |
|
The rain clouds have passed away but boredom still prevails? Why not head for the city! Delmenhorst attracts children and parents alike with lovingly designed playgrounds, some right in the city centre. Older children prefer the skate park at the city swimming pool. Miniature golf family contests can be held right next to the Graftanlagen. Or test your sense of direction in one of the maize labyrinths to be found around Delmenhorst, in Ganderkesee, Vechta or Oldenburg for example. Here you will find not just a maze in metre-high maize fields but also an exciting all-in programme for the whole family. |

Stuhr: Adventure playground |
|
Jumping, running, climbing, romping – children are always on the move, and that's good. The adventure playground in Stuhr, only a few minutes from Delmenhorst by car, offers lots of room to play, whatever the weather. About 3,000 square meters of space give children large and small an opportunity to discover their very own personal adventure between the climbing tower and the ball pool. The large play tower is a special attraction, offering around 160 activities on three different levels. |

Heritage railway: Full steam ahead out to the countryside |
|
Pure nostalgia, combined with romantic, rural idyll – that is the Jan Harpstedt, the historical narrow-gauge railway with cult status. From Harpstedt via Delmenhorst to Lemwerder, the old steam locomotive pulls its historic carriages at a gentle pace through the rural villages, past woods and lovingly restored mills, cosy country inns and tiny stations. Although picking the flowers is not permitted en route, passengers may disembark at each of the 14 little stations which act as ideal starting points for charming walks and cycling tours in the Wildeshauser Geest natural park and in the Weser marches.
Special events, group offers and seasonal programmes make every journey with Jan Harpstedt a special adventure at every time of year. |

Out to the country: Green Horizons |
|
Delmenhorst is a city of short distances – also to get out into the countryside. On foot, by bike or on horseback, you'll soon be surrounded by meadows, fields and little streams. It's definitely worth making a trip out to the suburb of Hasbergen with its windmill and mill museum, or to Hude with the carefully restored quarter around the ruined monastery. To the South West you'll find the Wildeshauser Geest with its gentle hills and old forests, while in the North East the Weser marshes with their vast expanses extend as far as the eye can see. And Zwischenahner Meer lake, popular with yachting enthusiasts, is only a few kilometres away. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you want to discover even more. We can provide you with insider tips, brochures and cycling maps so that you can get to know one of North Germany's most varied landscapes. |

A very special city tour: with the GPS treasure hunt, you not only discover a number of caches (hoards) but also see the loveliest parts of Delmenhorst, almost by coincidence. Geocaching has meanwhile caught on with many people all over the world. Delmenhorst is the first city in the region to offer this fascinating, entertaining alternative to conventional sight-seeing. Instead of using arrows and tips, geocaching sends you out and about with coordinates. There's a choice of two original tours – great fun for path-finders of all ages.
Those who have done geocaching before can hire the GPS devices. Stadtmarketing GmbH offers an introduction to beginners or even full support on request. |
